Questions & Answers Ask a Question
When I crimp this terminal, the conductor crimp is over the inspection hole – isn’t this a defect per IPC/WHMA-A-620?
We have a support article relating to this question, but essentially the hole you see is not designed to be an inspection hole. It is a plating hole, to allow the finish materials to reach the bottom of the crimp bore and help ensure performance. As such it is not relevant to IPC-A-620. Applying a crimp using the correct tools will indeed overlap the plating hole by 25 to 50%, but this is intended and expected. The design of the Datamate connector is so compact, there is no room to move the crimp area away from this hole without making the whole connector design larger.
Are the board/panel mount nuts supplied with this connector, or do I have to order them separately?
Yes, these connectors are supplied with the board/panel mount nuts – they will come packaged in a separate bag. If you need some spares, you can use part number M80-2130000B to order more.
Can I use a Metal Backshell (M80-945 or M80-946) with this connector?
Sorry no, I’m afraid the metal backshells are not compatible with Datamate Mix-Tek connectors fitted with 10AWG High Power contacts. You will need to specify an alternative contact from the standard power contacts (33x or M80-33x), one that uses 12 to 20AWG cable. Do please contact our Experts if you need assistance specifying an alternative.
What torque value should be used for these jackscrews?
The torque value for board or panel mounting is 21±2cmN. The torque value for mating jackscrews is 23cmN max. Both values are given in the Component Specification C005xx (page 14).
