Harwin launches RoHS/WEEE forum and micro-site

6th December 2005

Harwin has launched a new Environmental forum and internet microsite with the aim of simplifying the path to compliance with new Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) and Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) regulations due to be enforced next year.

Harwin has investigated both legislations thoroughly. Many of its product ranges are already RoHS-compliant, whilst others are being enhanced to include compliant variants. However, the company is also conscious of the needs of customers whose sectors are exempt from the new regulations, and many leaded products are being maintained for those markets.

Comments Wendy Bourne, RoHS Compliance Project Manager: “The microsite aims to educate our customers about what the legislation covers, and who it affects. It includes links to both Directives, and also to independent reports which have further information. The Environmental Forum will be an opportunity for customers to share their experiences and address specific concerns.”

The forum is intended to be an open discussion area, moderated by Harwin, where engineers can ask questions and post ideas concerning not only RoHS and WEEE, but also the ELV (End of Life Vehicles) and JIG-101 Joint Industry Guide on Material Composition programs as well as any other environmental concerns or legislation. Wendy Bourne can also be contacted directly on leadfree@harwin.co.uk.

EDIT: June 2010 – Please note that the Harwin forum is now closed. If you have any questions, do please contact us.
